Wilbur Wright was born on April 16, 1867 by Millville, Indiana. His playmate was Orville Wright, born four years later. Their father, Milton Wright, was on the road with his preaching. He often brought back toys for his children. Once, he brought back a model helicopter made of cork, bamboo, and a rubber band to power the blades. Orville and Wilbur got inspired by this and developed a lifelong love of aeronautics and flying.
Wilbur and Orville did not attend college. Instead, they went to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, known for its winds. They immediately started working on designs for airplane wings. On December 17, 1903, they flew the first ever controlled, power-driven airplane. Wilbur flew it for 59 seconds at 852 feet, an incredible feat.
